With the winter season quickly approaching, we figured it was time to make some announcements, including our winter picks and some updates. Note, however, that these are still subject to change especially in the case that one is not simulcast.

Continue reading Happy New Year! Winter 2015 Plans Edition

Hello everyone, this is going to be a lengthy post so get ready.

First of all, for those of you that don’t care about the rest, our plan for this airing season is just to do Trinity Seven. It is being worked on now and should be out soon. There may be a small chance of something else being picked up that no other group is doing but don’t take that as a commitment. You’ll find out why we’re only doing one show later in this post.

Second, as some of you may already be aware, a few of our members have left DDY for other groups. They have left for reasons of their own and whether or not we agree with their reasons and what those reasons are will not be discussed so don’t ask.

However, these members were also posed to become DDY’s next in line to be the power players and had already been acting as project leaders in the group. To lose them is definitely a hit to our established workflow. In light of their departure, DDY has had to take a look at what we had committed to doing and how sustainable that level of work truly is. As such, we will be dropping some BD projects, at least for the time being. The ones we will still be doing and their statuses are:

• Love Lab – vol 5 @ QC
• Noragami – vol 4 @ encode
• No Game No Life – vol 1 @ QC/release
• Nourin – vol 1 @ release, vol 2-4 @ TS/QC
• Black Bullet – vol 2 @ release
• Brynhildr – 11.5 OVA @ Edit
• Brynhildr – BDBOX 2 @ encode
• Soul Eater Not! – BD availability (this is a maybe)

Essentially, we will finish what we have started (including Flag!), at least. We may decide to re-add some of the BDs from the Summer season if we have time, but no promises right now. Hanamono is currently stalled at TL as the translator is currently travelling for work, giving aid for the current enterovirus D68 outbreak in the midwest US. This is still a pretty sizable list as you may have noticed. We intend to knock these BDs out in favor of doing more airing shows this season.

And the last announcement: I will be taking a break from fansubbing and DDY for at least this season but perhaps indefinitely. The past few months have seen my personal life become more and more complicated as I dealt with work, school, large scale family issues and personal issues as well. I’ve been under a lot of stress and, at some point, fansubbing became both my crutch to keep going and my excuse to keep putting everything else off. I can no longer do this given the events happening in my life. I also have to realize that, to an extent, I have been changed by fansubbing and the community around it, in some ways for the worse. I regret this deeply and hope that I can recover my true self again.

So, I will be taking a break to get more in touch with my real life and get my priorities straightened out. I will continue to help the active DDY staff transition into this new phase in the group’s life and will be available to them any time that they need me. I am fully confident that they can and will continue to provide quality subs that you are sure to enjoy.

One last thing, part of my departure includes my ability to financially bankroll the group’s server. I have, in the past, taken it upon myself to pay for our server and accept donations as simply a lessening of my personal load and asked for no more than 50$/mo from our fans. I can’t keep this going forever as I am also about to have a new drain on my income that I cannot avoid (part of my family issues). So I’m asking for your help. We recently moved to a newer, cheaper server that costs a little over 100$/mo to keep running. So I’m asking that, if you enjoy DDY subs, please donate with the widget in the sidebar.

As some of you may know, DameDesuYo has signed Daiz’s Drop TokyoTosho manifesto. I would like to clarify our position as it was not included in the document.

DameDesuYo will NOT stop uploading to TT.

I repeat: DameDesuYo will not stop uploading to TT.

However, I feel strongly enough about TT being a shitty content distribution platform that I was willing to put our name on it. In the months since this document first started circulating, TT was made aware almost immediately and, yet, nothing has changed. For a site that relies almost entirely on fansub groups, you’d think they would care about our input.

And, regardless of the technical aspects that make TT a pain to use, the fact remains that traffic from TT is exponentially outweighed by traffic from Nyaa. So there are two options here, I guess. First, no one actually uses TT and all the ruckus is being whipped up by just a few anons or long standing “enemies” of Nyaa. Or, second, the userbase of TT is shockingly non-interactive.
