Looking for cappers (TV-recorder)

We are currently looking for a capper (TV-recorder) who would work with DDY starting next season. We would prefer an exclusive relationship for security and reliability reasons but that is not mandatory.

If you are interested and meet the following criteria, please either contact me, begna112, on rizon IRC or email us at [email protected]

We are interested if you

  • Live in japan
  • Have access to several or all of the following TV channels:
  • —Tokyo MX
  • —TV Tokyo
  • —BS11
  • —MBS
  • —TV Aichi
  • —ATX HD (even if you only have this, please contact)
  • Have a decent upload speed – the faster the better
  • Have or are willing to get the required equipment to cap (easiest with a desktop computer)
  • —DDY may be willing to contribute some of the cost.

Look for a guy that will actually finish working on Chaos Dragon first, goddamn.

a helpful tip: I wouldn’t ask for an exclusive capper, you’ll have a hard time finding someone to only supply to a single group. Remove that condition and you’ll have more options open.

    • You have a good point but being exclusive also has the benefit of being more secure for the capper and is more reliable for us. Relying on public capboxes has always been a problem for us and, no doubt, for yourself and others in the scene. I figure it is better to aim higher and if other options come along so be it, but that is the end goal.

      • Fyurie

It’s fair to say that it’d be more secure, I guess (at least until they come up on an IP scan and get vuln’d anyways).

I’d probably reword the post slightly though, right now it implies that anything less than exclusive isn’t wanted and I assume that’s not what you’re trying to go for.

I don’t think there’s really ever such a thing as “secure” when you have all the hackers out there scanning for boxes all the time.

        • From my understanding, it is possible to secure a capbox that you own it physically. They wouldn’t need to make it publicly available if they’re a personal capper which is a large part of the insecurity. I could be wrong, but that’s what I’ve gathered in discussion with some cappers.

I might reword it. You make a good point about the implications of the wording. However, we really don’t want someone who has access to a box or two that gets killed halfway through a season. That would just be counter productive.

          • Fyurie

If it was kept completely offline, yeah, it would be. You don’t have to be exclusive to do that though, you just have to move caps to another server yourself instead of having your capping device connected to the internet. That means only the capper can schedule caps, though. That’s the tradeoff.

The point about dead boxes is fairly valid, but there are enough cappers out there with stable box networks if you know where to look, and they still share with multiple people. It’s the more niche stations that are questionable, but they’re niche for a reason, not many people use them for anything.

            • I seem to recall being told that IP locking access to the box would also make it fairly secure and allow remote scheduling.

As for other cappers and their stable boxes, this is their chance to volunteer. I’ve been told that the public boxes are pretty much a dying breed even for those in the know.

Either way, having a personal capper is all benefit and no loss, in my opinion.

              • Fyurie

As long as your box is on the net, I’m sure IP-locking wouldn’t save you from someone with the right scanning know-how. From there, you can just abuse vulnerabilities to gain access.

And yeah, I’m not saying a personal is bad, it’s definitely good, it’s just really unlikely, so I wouldn’t limit your search.

Sorry for the delay Chaos is taking. Be assured we want to see it finished it as much as you. I can give you an update as well: I’ve just finished 09 editing. 10 should be edited by tomorrow’s evening as well.

  • Why just don’t you use Leopard Raws instead ? 0___0

    • Because leopard raws is already encoded and does not always use the best settings. We use the raw tv recordings and try to do a much better job with the video.

      • I understand but it’s not that bad anymore and it could be a great save of time!

        • Period

Still bad enough that reencoding it would in fact be a waste of our time:
          http://diff.pics/YCLmueBaPN9W/1
While it doesn’t particularly matter all that much for Noragami, because we used spliced funi, the noise and such you see in the screenshots are due to Leopard’s quicker encoding settings, I presume. You’ll find the same noise and blurriness in all of their encodes as far as I know.

Reencoding a quick encode such as that one would only kill quality.

          • Yes but it’s the only way if they don’t find capper soon…

          • Period

We’re not in such a dire need for a capper that we would resort to using share-raws, and I doubt we will ever be. We’re looking for additional options for mostly special cases. We have a few cappers already.

In fact we’re already using MX and/or MBS for Utaware, Noragami, and Seraph.

An extra capper or two as backup, especially one who can be dedicated to us and 100% reliable, wouldn’t be a bad thing though.

I know this is not related to the subject of this publication, but it would be possible to do “Aria the Scarlet Ammo AA”?
In advance, thank you very much.
