FAQ
What is your policy on reencodes and use of DDY’s subtitles?
Both are fine without our explicit permission so long as you clearly state that our subtitles are used as well as make it clear that your release is a reencode or re-release, not the original.
Status on ____?
Check the sidebar! If it’s on the sidebar you can be certain it hasn’t been dropped.
How do I apply a patch from DDY?
- Unzip the patch .zip file
- Drag the .mkv video file into the same folder as your patch files
- Double click the appropriate script for your operating system
I found a mistake in one of your releases! Who do I tell?
Head over to the Public QC page and fill out the form. Thanks for telling us :>
Why do your releases keep breaking my toaster?
Because your bread sux.
Note: This “guide” is temporary, as currently there is a movement in the fansubbing community to bring everyone over to libass and away from VSFilter. This section may change.
These days, mpv is the most up-to-date player that fansub groups support, due to continued support from the libass and mpv developers.
MPC+MadVR+XySubFilter+LAV is still a viable codec combination, but both VSFilter and MPC-HC are unmaintained.
eXmendiC has provided configuration files on his website to get users going with mpv. You can find links to those here. A basic setup that looks better than the likes of VLC is as simple as dragging two files into a folder.
If you would still like to go the route of MPC-HC, steps 1-12 of nyaa.si’s old MPC guide are still relevant to getting it installed, but from that point on understanding how different filters work is crucial to setting it up for your own hardware. In a lot of ways, the mpv setup is easier now for someone who is learning how these things work, because most MadVR guides are outdated.
VLC Media Player has improved its playback a lot in recent years, and libass being actively maintained has helped the fact. You can probably get away with using it, but we do not officially support it nor do we check our own releases on it. Colors might still be incorrect. Your mileage may vary.
