    I’ve checked the AT-X raw, unfortunately there aren’t any uncensored versions airing.
    We just need to hope Mr Steam is absent from the BD’s.

  It’s will be better if DDY focus on their current TV shows and BD projects to make sure their are no delay on TV shows and fast complete their Anime BD projects.

  Shouldn’t Arata be referred to as a Magic King rather than a Demon Lord? Or has that been an error in the translation in the manga that has perpetuated for the last 3 years?

  While not a bad ep, we did lose a lot of fun dialogue from the first two chapters.

    Really? The manga I read said Demon Lord. I hated this term in the manga personally but I think they looked into the kanji itself.

      Well, I followed Village Idiot’s translation and they have been using Magic King since the start (first page of chapter 2). Whether they have been correct in their translation, I can’t be 100% sure. However, I think I prefer it over the endless stream of other material that use Demon Lord, makes things feel a bit fresher.

      The wiki entries will all need to be updated.

        From the audio, they’re pretty much saying “demon lord”. There’s also a sign in the episode that has “demon lord”. Most likely the studio decided to use a different term, or it could’ve been a mistranslation in the manga.

          I do not claim to be proficient in Japanese in any sense, but here’s my two cents. The kanji used is 魔王 – when read together it is usually translated as ‘Devil’ or ‘Demon Lord’ but if you separate them, 魔 is most often translated and ‘magic’ and 王 as ‘king.’ Given this I’d say both work just fine for the purpose that it’s being used for. I’m not familiar with the story, since I’ve only watched this one episode, but given that everyone at a school of magic is talking about candidates for the 魔王 I would think Magic King might match the story better (since it does not seem to so far involve the denizens of the infernal realm). But again that’s just my opinion and I’m cool with whichever is used.

            魔 is typically translated as demon, evil spirit, etc. If you wanted magic, you need to add on the character for “hou”. This is what our translators have said, and what I’ve found from some quick research.
            I gave the manga raws a quick look, and it’s literally “demon king”. I’d say the manga translators just wanted a less cliche term.

          Trust me, as the main editor of this show, I don’t like the “demon term” either, as it doesn’t have enough context in the show to fit. “Magic king” is definitely more appropriate, but got kind of invalidated with the signs in the ep. Not to mention the term doesn’t sound exactly fancy.

  To Steinr – You are correct, I apologize for my ignorance. Upon reflection, and actually getting off my ass to check my kanji dictionary, 魔 is ‘demon.’ For some inexplicable reason I thought that by itself it could be interpreted as either – I guess I tend to think of it in terms of compounds, to me 悪魔 is the term for a demon since it carries the extra implication of an ‘evil’ being, but then that opens a debate on whether or not ‘demon’ in English necessarily carries an implication of good or evil. However, I concede that to be ‘magic’ it would have to be 魔法 and both apologize and retract my previous statement, which was simply wrong. Thanks.

  To Tetrus – Thank you for the response, and I understand the reasoning. It’s just a little frustrating that what is used, source-wise, doesn’t really seem to fit the context. Aren’t languages fun!
