Turns out the stuff about static stretching is pretty legit. You can find the research under “Does pre-exercise static stretching inhibit maximal muscular performance? A meta-analytical review” by Simic et al.
Regarding the lat pull down form they used, I can’t really say anything against it, but keeping your upper body straight and static throughout will help engage your lats/back a bit more.
