Hanamonogatari 01

So, this happened.
Okay, so there are five episodes to Hanamonogatari, which we’ll be releasing separately. All five of them will be merged into a single movie-format video as soon as we finish batching. The OP and ED both only showed up once during the airing; at the beginning of episode one, and at the end of episode five — which is why the video abruptly cuts off at the end.

Thanks for playing, we’ll be here all week ;)

#TeamNoSleep:
Translator – UtaxSilence — Signs: kokujin-kun, Ninaxxy, shinchan
TLC – kokujin-kun (1v2 onwards)

Timer – Usome, Hybrid21
Typesetter – itsP, Sereft, begna112
QC – begna112, itsP, Fulbring, Tetrus, Sereft

Thanks for the release guys! Been following your subgroup for a while and you guys always seem to do a good job. Keep up the good work (and remember to sleep occaisionally too).

    >Someone other than commie is subbing monogatari
    Anime is saved.

  • tfw

Thank you so fucking much for saving us from Commie. Commie is bad enough, but with out unanimated typesetting, they really have no saving grace for Hana. Again, thanks.

  • がーる

Damn you guys are on top of it.

  • Bookmaker

    is this a real life?

  • Harlov

It’s here! Thanks to you, now this series has been saved! Great job DDY!!

  • Opening first line start time

  • Cickány

You are fukin awesome guys! Thank you!

  • AzureHakua

You’re gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul.

  • omimon

The name of Suruga’s friend is Higasa not Higusa. Just want to point that out.

  • kiryu-kun

    Nyaa mods are faggots
    Thanks DDY

  • F

What’s the deal with nyaa mods?

  • Dice-kun

Holy shit the mods on Nyaa almost made me and hero. I almost understand why people want to get away from the cartel drama now, thus just watching CR/HS. Thank you DDY for the hard work that was put into this. Keep up the good work!

  • omimon

Also in 17:15-17:19 it should be “During the three years I retired playing basketball after middle school.”

You guys missed the word “retire”.

    • I think more we missed the word “after” so “during the the years after playing basketball…” Not a TL mistake there but a missing word from edit. Thanks for letting us know though.

  • Commie mod on Nyaa removed trusted from this release cos you beat Commie to releasing. That’s hilarious.

  • rude

Remember back on your TokyoTosho post, Begna112? Concerning their staff? One would think a v2 isn’t too far to replace the mistakes that are in the release and still maintain trusted status for that torrent but oh heck no! Because you guys released Hana first it hurt teh ego hard. Mad jealousy they got going on. They not to be trusted!

    • If the claims are substantiated though, which is yet to be seen, of course, then this wouldn’t be just a v2, it’d be an entire re-release.

I’m not trying to take sides here as I quite like DDY and the efforts they’ve been making to improve over the past couple fo seasons, but this could yet have been a mis-step. Time will tell.

  • Lenmaer

A nyaa mod who also happens to be in Commie (which also does that show), removing the trusted status for sure doesn’t feel biased.
But that’s just my honest opinion.

    • it’s easy to see why people will see it that way, and I don’t blame anyone for doing so, but let’s just wait for the other reviews to come back, they’ll speak for themselves.

  • Cameron

Pretty decent subs as far as I can see.
    Well done.

  • someone

I second with Cameron. Granted I wish Commie was subbing this, but somebody’s got to, even if it’s not Commie.

Can’t for the rest of the story.

  • i’m not a expert in japanese or anything, but it seems that the subs are pretty good. i’m sure a few things are maybe not-so-well translated but you can get and understand everything that’s happening perfectly, even monogatari which has lots of talking. thanks for the hard work!

  • blank

you will translate just one ep for the weak ? or how u will translate the hanamonogatari ?

  • Neil

Who did a good job on the second season? I was getting Node til they dropped off the planet and waited on them long enough that I forgot about it until just now. Gotta get caught up.

    • tfw

Honestly, Commie did a very good job with Second Season. The thing that makes me nervous about their Hanamonogatari release is that they don’t have unanimated typesetting; instead they have herkz, who is terrible at everything he does.

DDY’s typesetting, editing and encoding was good for Hana. There are a lot of issues (supposedly) regarding their translations. Obviously if you don’t know Japanese you don’t actually notice these issues, but if they’re as bad as people claim, you’re basically not getting anything that was actually said in the episode.

      • tcn

I’d like to clear up some misrepresentations of the typesetting situation for commie’s hana release in your comment.

First of all, herkz is not a bad typesetter by any measure and certainly not as terrible as you seem to think.
Also, the vast majority of unanimated’s monogatari typesetting was created by a script that anyone can use. Typesetting monogatari without it (or something similar) would be pretty awful considering how mindlessly simple most of the signs are. herkz is obviously using this script to typeset.

To be frank it doesn’t really matter at all who’s typesetting it and the translation quality is an order of magnitude more important anyway.

    • At this point, you may as well wait for the BD’s to be completed. As you were watching Node, consider getting the first 4 arc’s of Second Season from Coalgirls as they’ve used Node’s script.

  • man00ver

I don’t know Japanese, but the English was very nice and didn’t hurt a bit. I can’t imagine how the “translation errors” damaged the story, but I guess I’ll be comparing closely when other releases emerge. I’ll be watching every one of them multiple times, I’m sure. Thanks for being first!

  • Happy Daniel

So is there anything in this season thats worth waiting for the BD’s?

Fanservice, gore, etc. I’ve never watched anything but the BD’s for the Monogatari series, but i just finished S2 and i’m itching for more.

  • blankley

As someone who has used unanimated’s scripts, albeit not for almost a year, I’d like to point out that most typesetters I know use these scripts. It still takes a lot of TLC and a good eye to get the signs looking the way unanimated gets them. He definitely deserves the credit that he gets.
